He moved his family from Temmels on der Moselle (Mosel River), Prussia just before his eldest son would be conscripted into the military. Langford was settled by German immigrants and is mostly a farming community. In the 1800's after a fire destroyed the church, the brewery was torn down and a new church built upon its foundation. St. Martin's Church, now called Epiphany of our Lord, stills stands today. His eldest son founded John N. Schreiner Memorials. They were the largest suppliers of granite and marble memorial stones and artistry. John married Elizabeth Weber in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Temmels, Prussia on November 11, 1875.

They are believed to be buried at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Temmels.
