Mr. Harry Thomas Sifford, 88, of Granite Quarry, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. He was born March 6, 1924 in Rowan County to the late Frank R. Sifford and Vergie Josie Sifford. Mr. Sifford was a 1941 Graduate of Boyden High School and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII and the Korean War. He retired as an Account Executive for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. A former member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church, Mr. Sifford was currently a member of Organ Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Historical Committee. He was a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Oasis Shriner's Temple, American Legion Post 448 in Granite Quarry, and GARS of Rufty-Holmes Senior Center. Mr. Sifford was the former Mayor of Granite Quarry and served two terms as a Rowan County Commissioner, during which he was instrumental in the creation of the county EMS system. He loved attending and supporting Rowan County American Legion Baseball and was the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sifford was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Virginia Stefl Sifford, who passed away January 1, 2000, one brother, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Louise Linker Sifford; son, Eric Sifford of Lexington; daughter, Jeanne Olive of Rowan County; grandchildren, Christine Stiller, Jason Tobin, and Jonathan Tobin; great-grandchildren, Jacob Stiller, Rachel Stiller, Harley Tobin, Autumn Tobin, and Austin; step-children, Randy Taylor and wife, Patsy, Ronald Taylor and wife, Shelia, Keith Taylor and wife, Robin, and Annette McKinney and husband, Barry; seven step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Sifford will be held Saturday morning, September 1, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Organ Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Carlin Ours, pastor and the Rev. Maurice Staley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell, Friday evening, August 31, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
