Russell Omer Bedwell, 88, of Sullivan passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at his residence. The U.S. Army veteran of WWII was born January 10, 1921 in Sullivan County to Benjamam Bedwell and Mabel Beatty Bedwell. He was a retired coal miner, a lifetime member of the Terre Haute Post 972 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Dugger American Legion. He was a past master and member of Makanda, IL Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, the Zorah Shrine Temple and the Sullivan Elks Lodge #911. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Opal Rusher Bedwell, his second wife Rosetta Hollifield Bedwell, his parents, two brothers Arthur and Lloyd Bedwell and three sisters Marie Turley, LaVern Hughbanks and Flora Mae Pirtle.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Russell Black officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-800 p.m. Monday with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m.
