Francis D. Giachino, 63, beloved husband and father passed away on Wednesday July 27, 2005 at the Marquette General Hospital following a short illness.

He was born on January 24, 1942, in Laurium, a son of the late Dominic and Felicia (Butala) Giachino.

He attended Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School with the class of 1960, where he was an accomplished basketball player holding the high school league scoring title at 36 points per game in his senior year and also a member of the Sacred Heart High School band.

On August 7, 1965, he married the former Sharon Ericson at Sacred Heart Church of Calumet.

Fran worked for UPPCO for over 40 years in the meter department until he retired on January 30, 2004 as lead meterman of the Houghton District.

Fran was active in the Calumet Hockey Association, where he served as president and treasurer of the association, the district 8 council , Michigan Amateur Hockey Association, and CLK Little League Baseball.

He was a life long member of the Sacred Heart Church, a past member of the parish council, the re-building committee and the Men=s Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant twin brother & sister, and a brother James.

1 Daughter: Gina (Byron) Redmond of Laurium

4 Sons: Brian (Stephanie) Giachino of Waterloo, Iowa
David (Michele) Giachino of Trenton, MI
Jonathan (Leigh) Giachino of Calumet
Daniel Giachino of Laurium

7 Grandchildren: Joseph, Audra, Clare, Brian, Annette, Elicia, and Laura

2 Sisters: Joyce (Carl) Lukezich of Calumet
Betty (Kenneth) Fisher of Calumet

1 Brother: Joseph (Carol) Giachino of Bootjack

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church of Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday, July 29, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM or at www.ericksoncrowley.com

A prayer service will be held at 8:45 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
