Ruggles W. Crumb, senior member of the lumber and fuel company which bears his name, died at his home, 1013 Harlem avenue, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. His passing was not unexpected. Last September he suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he partially recovered. His improvement not being pronounced, it was thought such a stay in the south would be beneficial, and about eight weeks ago, accompanied by his wife and brother, B. W. Crumb, he went to Alabama. The improvement hoped for in the south did not come; on the contrary, he began to fail. A week ago he was brought to Rockford by his son, Ward. The journey was a severe strain and he was a very sick man when he reached Rockford. Thence on to the end his failure was steady.
Mr. Crumb was born in Brookfield, New York 74 years ago next Monday. He located in Chicago and was engaged in the same business in Marengo and Belvidere and fourteen years ago became a resident of Rockford. He was the head of the R.W. Crumb Lumber and Fuel company, with offices in Seventh street.
He is survived by his wife and three children. Mrs. Crumb was Miss Caroline Robinson of Leonardsville, New York, their wedding being celebrated July 18, 1853. The children are Haskell A. Crumb, Ward Crumb and Miss Grace Crumb. Burritt L. Crumb and Darwin Crumb are brothers and Mrs. Josephine Clark is a sister of decedent. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence.
