Andrew Jefferson Vaughn was the son of Benjamin D. Vaughn [1815 KY - 1871 KY] and Permelia "Melia" Wilkins [1820 IL - 1896 MO].

Andrew and at least one of his brothers, Allen Anderson Vaughn [1844 KY - ca 1898 MO] served with the Conferderate Calvary during the Civil War.

Andrew was married 4 times. The first was to Sarah E. Dilback [ca1845 KY - 1867 KY] and they had one child, a daughter, Mary Malvina Vaughn Cross [1866 KY - 1916 AR].

Andrew's second wife was to a cousin of Sarah's, Mary "Polly" Dills [1844 KY - 1886 AR]. Andrew and Polly had 8 children: Alley Ann "Annie" Vaughn Seay [1870 KY - ?]; Sarah Margaret Vaughn Warner [1872 KY - ?]; Martha Peraua "Marse" Vaughn Woods [1873 KY - 1949]; Nancy Jane Vaughn [1876 AR - 1879 AR]; Manerva Thomas Vaughn [1878 AR - 1895 AR]; Benjamin D Vaughn [1879 AR - 1968 AR]; Charlotta Corday "Cordie or Lottie" Vaughn 1882 AR - ? AR]; Joseph Allen Vaughn [ 1885 AR - 1911 AR].

Andrew's third wife was Sarah E Sellers Coats [ca1860 - ?] whom he married in 1888. No one really knows what happen to Sarah. Some said she ran away because Andrew was so mean. Other family rumors where that Andrew killed her. One such rumor told by his daughter Ethel Vaughn Ellis' children was, Andrew Jefferson and Sarah were on a paddle wheel boat crossing from the east to the other side of the White River. "Sarah was with him when they got on the boat but was not with him when he got off on the other side. No one ever saw her again".

Andrew married his fourth wife, Elizabeth Jane "Elvie Jane" Warren [1870 AR - 1939 AR] on 29 March 1894 in Stone Co, Arkansas. They had 5 children: Ider Elizabeth Vaughn [1895 AR - 1896 AR]; Rose Etta "Rosie" Vaughn [1897 AR - 1979 AR]; Lillie Vaughn [1900 AR - 1985 AR]; Ethel Vaughn Ellis [1902 AR - 1936 AR]; Permelia "Melia" Vaughn Ellis [1905 AR - 1997 AR].

James E. Coles published The Vaughn/Cross Family Book in 1989 detailing many years of research into this side of the family.
