Birth:
Son of Solto Charles Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton (1732-1774) and Katharine Hamilton (1736-1823). His brother was George Douglas, 15th Earl of Morton (1761-1827) who married Susan Elizabeth Yarde-Butler (c1793-1849).
Shipwreck:
On December 30 or 31, 1783 their British warship sank within sight of Sandy Hook. Halyburton and 12 of his crew died of hypothermia and were buried on Sandy Hook.
.∼Son of the Earl of Morton. Along with 13 other members of the crew of the H.M.S. Assistance, he persihed in the line of duty at Sandy Hook.

Gravesite Details
The remains were reinterred at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York in 1909.
