Richard "Dick" Boyles, 75, of Grant Town passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday (Feb. 8, 2007) at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1932, in Fairmont, a son of the late Carson and Elva May Boyles.
Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School where he played basketball and ran track. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He also served as the principal officer of Teamsters Local 789 in Fairmont for many years before moving to Alaska in 1974.
In Alaska, he was hired by Bechtel Corp. and British Petroleum as senior labor relations specialist for the Trans Alaska Pipeline Construction Project. In his later years, he worked in Florida in the movie industry on such movies as "Cape Fear," "The Specialist," "Just Cause," "Speed 2," "Blood and Wine" and "Flipper."
He enjoyed racing motorcycles in his younger days and playing golf, especially with his son Rick for well over 30 years.
Dick enjoyed his last four months in Alaska with his son and daughter-in-law, watching his grandchildren play high school basketball and spending quality time with his loving family.
He is survived by his son, Rick Boyles and his daughter-in-law Chris Sadler of Fairbanks; his brother, James Carson "Buck" Boyles and his wife Louise of Fairmont; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Long Jimmie and her husband Anthony of Rivesville; five grandchildren, Criss and Renee Jimmie of Rivesville and Jessie and Ricky Boyles and Shannon Sadler of Fairbanks; brothers-in-law, James Zabolotny and his wife Judy, and Val Zabolotny and wife Rosanne of Rockwell, Texas; sisters-in-law, Jo Mazure of Bridgeport, Helen and Jim Poling of Centerville, Ohio, and Frances and John Koch of Fairmont; and several caring nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Florence H. "Toolie" Boyles; and son David Boyles.
Friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
