The Red Star Line's S. S. Zeeland left the Antwerp, Belgium port on March 12, 1904 and arrived at Ellis Island on March 22, 1904 (at least 3,650 miles at a service speed of fifteen knots). The whole family ended up "in hospital" on board after daughter Bertha made a friend on ship and caught what was probably chickenpox.
