Maybelle L. Adashun, 94, was called home by God on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Grancare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She was born on April 2, 1918 in Lomira, Wisc. to George J. and Susan (Welsch) Steiner. Maybelle was united in marriage to Frank P. Adashun, (deceased) on July 17, 1943. Maybelle was a loving wife, devoted mother to three children, inspiring grandmother, sister and a dedicated, hard-working teacher for many years in the Campbellsport School District. She had also taught in Wausau, Eden and even taught adults at night in Fond du Lac for a time. When she retired, she kept teaching and tutored many students throughout the years. She was a small town girl that had "big dreams." Maybelle (pronounced May Bell, not Mabel) (Steiner) Adashun, grew up in rural Lomira on her parent's farm (Inland Stock Farm) located where Quad/Graphics is now. At the age of 13, she moved away from the farm and worked for room and board in Fond du Lac, so she could pursue a college bound course at the big city high school. Her dream was to become a teacher and so she did! She preferred school and education over everything else. She said, "And I wanted to make sure that my children felt that way, too." Maybelle instilled her strong work ethic and the importance of education into her children, Frank G., Mark and Sue Marie. Hard work and determination were part of her character and what she believed in. Maybelle went through the Great Depression and the fierce determination it took to overcome adversity. She saw many friends of her family lose everything, but her father, George J. Steiner, managed to keep the farm in such hard times. Maybelle "saved" everything – and did not like to throw anything away, until it was clearly unusable. She had a passion for flowers, especially red roses and loved where she lived after she got married – "Adashun Acres," which was a farm about 5 miles from Campbellsport. Maybelle also had a very generous heart and spirit, and was always giving others gifts. She was a very caring person who did anything for anyone. She had a special heart for the disadvantaged, disabled and "at risk." She gave of her time to many worthwhile organizations. She was named "Woman of the Year" for Fond du Lac County in 1976. She was president of Workshops, Inc. in Fond du Lac for many years. Her and her husband were involved with U.C.T. as well. Professionally, she was also on the board for the Rock River Reading Council for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Campbellsport, and supported many activities in the church. She always said, "Faith without works is dead," and loved to honor God by serving others. After her husband died in 1978, she joined NAIM and attended their meetings and activities, too. Maybelle was always learning. A big part of her career as an educator, was attending the WEAC State Convention in either Milwaukee or Madison, every year, including when she was a retired teacher. The convention always included her daughter, Sue Marie, who is also an educator, (School Counselor) in the Sun Prairie School District and other family members, who would come along for the festivities. Maybelle loved to learn, laugh and "go out to eat!" She loved good food and fellowship with family and friends. Maybelle was always impeccably dressed from head to toe, with everything coordinated, including wearing a hat and jewelry. She loved to shop and especially loved hats of all kinds and was never seen without a hat on. She loved every minute she could spend with her kids, grandkids, relatives and friends. Memories of "The Halloween Witch," and "St. Nick," will be forever remembered. There were always hugs, kisses and "treats." She will be deeply missed by her children, Frank G. Adashun of Fond du Lac, Mark A. Adashun (Ingrid) of Wauwatosa, and Sue M. (Adashun) Maurer (David) of Verona and her precious grandchildren – Troy Adashun of Florida, Christopher and Nathan Christenson of Wauwatosa, and Theresa and Alek Maurer of Verona. She will also be missed by her sister, Joan (Steiner) Kleppe of Schaumburg, Illinois; as well as many close friends, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Frank P. Adashun, her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Mary Adashun, and her sisters, Theresa (Steiner) McCarty and Lillian (Steiner) Luedtke. Visitation will be Tuesday Aug. 28th from 12:30 PM until time of Mass at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Campbellsport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday Aug. 28th at 3:00 PM at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Campbellsport with Fr. Neil Zinthefer officiating and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. After the burial, all are welcome to come for dinner in the cafeteria at St. Matthews Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be made to the Campbellsport School District Scholarship Fund.
