Born in Wango/Parsonsburg, MD he was the son of the late A. Paul Adkins and Elsie Layfield Adkins.
Mr. Adkins served the the U.S. Army, 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment from 1951-52. He retired in 1982 from A & P Tea Company with 34 years of service. He and his wife regularly attended Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene. His memberships include: American legion Post 93, life member of VFW Post 194, life member of Society of the 1st Infantry Division 16th Infantry Regiment Association, Pocomoke City Elks 1624, E.S.R. Antique Car Club of the Accomack-Northampton Region, Charter member Salisbury Coin Club and Local 27 Retirees Club of the Eastern Shore.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Lillian Adkins and her son, Robert B. Farmer and stepson, Gary Farrell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Farrell Adkins of Salisbury; son, Richard Farmer of Salisbury; daughter, Pat Post and her husband, Bart of Pennsylvania; stepsons and their wives: Robert & Linda Farrell, David & Barbara Farrell and Jack & Pat Farrell all of Salisbury and Craig Farrell of California; sister, Mary Emily Twilley of Arcadia, FL; many loved grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 3 special nephews and a special friend, John Kohler.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ronald G. Parker assisted by Pastor Janelle Beiler will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Parsonsburg.
