Wild Bill Longson was a Professional Wrestler and three time World Heavy Weight Champion in the 1940s. He was a great showman and fantastically agile for a man of his height and weight. During a match He frequently would jump of the over the top rope of the rink. During his career he was quite popular in the St. Louis area.

He is credited with the innovation of the "piledriver" move in wrestling, which sees a wrestler hoist an opponent upside down and spiking them on the mat. The danger comes from potentially compressing the opponent's spine by dropping them on their head. The move is (now) banned in many territories worldwide, leading to a disqualification and even a fine.
