Madeline F. Bishop, Cashier at Angelo's and Shaw's Market
SOUTH YARMOUTH — Madeline F. (Capuano) Bishop of South Yarmouth died peacefully Monday, August 8 at the Cape Cod Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born in Worcester, Maddy worked in the Providence Shipyard during WWII (one of the Rosie's Riveters, to be sure) and moved to Cape Cod in 1947 with her husband of 49 years, Lester R. Bishop, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, his wife, her granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews and their children. Her granddaughter brought extra joy to her this past year.

Maddy embraced her life on Cape Cod, racing Lester's go-cart on Scusset Beach in the early "60's", waterskiing endlessly on Bass River, and skating countless hours at the Kennedy Rink. She also enjoyed watching hockey games there for over three decades. She was a fixture at her cash register for 42 years — never changing jobs even though the store changed names and cultures three times. She cherished the relationships developed with fellow employees over that period.

She traveled beyond the Cape many times to Bermuda, Europe, and recently to the Panama Canal — a goal she was determined to achieve.

If you were her friend, you were Maddy's friend for life, and you knew exactly where you stood, as she was not shy with her opinions. Maddy was a founding member of Saint Pius X Church.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth on Thursday, August 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 12, prior to leaving in procession to Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave. South Yarmouth where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1 p.m.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Yarmouth Food Pantry, P. O. Box 982, West Yarmouth, MA 02673.
