James Carter Owens, 65 of the Hollybrook Community, Bland, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from his home. He was born in Dickenson County, VA on July 5, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father, Vergil Owens and three brothers, Jerry, Johnny and Gary Owens. He was a member of the Hollybrook Church of Christ. He is survived by his mother, Naomi Owens, Haysi, VA; his wife, Mildred Owens, Bland; two sons, Bradley (Gloria) Owens, Bland; Tim (Bobbie Joe) Owens, Bristol, VA; two grandchildren, Kayla Owens, Bristol, VA; Craig Owens, Bland; three step-grandchildren, Cassie Osburn, Travis Osburn and Tommy Carroll of Bristol, VA; one sister, Wilma (Jim) Hearl, Haysi, VA; four brothers, Willard (Diane) Owens, Haysi, VA; Dean (Karen) Owens, Grundy, VA; Darrell (Freda) Owens, Haysi, VA; Ricky Owens, Haysi, VA; and his beloved mule, Riley. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, VA with the Rev. Jim Conley, Rev. Henry Conley and Rev. Justin May officiating. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. prior to service at 7:00 P.M. Graveside service Sunday at 1:00 P.M. at the Morning Star Cemetery, Bland. Pallbears will be Sean Phelps, John Caylor, Justin May, Kevin May, Jeff Owens and Jason Hall. Honorary Pallbears will be Jim Conley, Henry Conley, Albert Miller, Terry Gordon, Alan Burton, Danny Blankenship, Randy Ratliff, Randall Hibbits, Kenny Wright and Jimmy Gusler.
