Joseph E. Wood, age 89, a resident of North Ridge Care Center and formerly of
500 E. Reed Ave., Manitowoc, died Thursday, December 31, 1992, at Holy Family
Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 4, 1993, at St. James
Episcopal Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. David Klutterman will officiate with
burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites
will be accorded by the American Legion Drews Blesser Post No. 88.
He was born October 16, 1903, in Britt, Iowa, son of the late Rupert and Eleanor
Long Wood. He attended schools in Charles City, Iowa. He then enlisted in the
U.S. Army and was a vetern (sic) of World War II. After returning from the war,
he returned to Charles City, where he worked at Oliver Tractor Company. He was
transferred in 1946 to South Bend, Ind. In 1948 he moved to Two Rivers and
became employed with Paragon Electric as a production manager. He retired in
1968 at Manager of Personnel and Industrial Relations. He married Carolyn Malley,
August 20, 1925, at Charles City, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 28,
1989. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, a charter member of the
American Legion in Iowa, a member of Manitowoc Elks Club, first president of
Two Rivers Kiwanis Club, St. Charles Masonic Lodge No. 141, F. and A.M., past
president of (sic) member of Peshtigo Preserve. He also was an avid hunter and
fisherman all his life. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Eleanor and Robert Deubler,
Manitowoc, Mrs. Barbara Naidl, Baraboo, Wis.; five grandchildren; four great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, Charles and Gaylon, a son-in-law, Chuck Naidl.
Friends may call at St. James Episcopal Church Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the
time of services. Memorials are appreciated to St. James Episcapol Church. The
Harrigan Parkside Funeral assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
