DIED At Manitowoc, on Monday, June 7th, 1869, Mrs. Margaret White, wife of
Richard White, Esq., aged 72 years.
The deceased was a native of Parsonstown, Kings county, Ireland. In 1850, in
company with her husband and daughter and Robert Hume, a brother to the editor
of this paper, she sought an American home, and made Manitowoc her selection.
We honestly and firmly believe a better Christian, a truer wife, a more faithful
and indulgent mother, a kinder friend, or a more accommodating neighbor never
existed in the "Badger State."
For years, long before her arrival in this country, she was sorely afflicted
both bodily and mentally and were it not for a strong mind and a firm and
unwavering belief in Him, she died, that, we might live a glorious Heareafter,
the Grim Destroyer would have claimed her long, long ago, as a victim.
To the kind friends, of our second mother, we can only return thanks. To the
bereaved husband we can offer no word of sympathy as we believe that it was
right and proper that she "should rest from her labors and her works follow
her," and because we know he has abiding faith in Him, "who doeth all things
well," and Time, the Great Consoler, can alone alleviate his sufferings in this
hour of affliction.
