MARTIN VOLLENDORF

In Death's Embrace.
Martin Vollendorf died at Milwaukee yesterday in the hospital
where he was taken for treatment about a week ago. He had been
suffering for some time past from a cancerous growth on the
pleura and an operation for its removal was decided upon. The
operation took place yesterday and the ordeal proved to be more
than the patient could endure for he breathed his last before
the surgeons completed their labors.
The deceased was born in Mecklenburg in 1828. He came to America
in 1855 and almost immediately afterward to Manitowoc, where he
had resided continuously up to the time of his death. He was
widely known throughout this section and was universally
respected.
Eight children survive him; Martin, Adolph, George, Mrs. Victor
Klingholz, Mrs. Joseph Beuer, Mrs. Minnie Klusen, all of this
city, Emil of Chicago, and Otto of Kaukauna. Funeral arrangements
have not yet been made.
