GUSTAV TRONSON

PORTO RICO HERO DEAD.
Gustave Tronson, a Member of Co. H, Answers the Final Roll Call.
Gustave Tronson died at the home of his parents, 724 N. Main Street,
at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, aged 24 years. Death was not entirely
unexpected, but was none the less a severe shock to relatives and
friends. Born in this city in 1874, the deceased gew to manhood in
our midst, and was a young man, highly respected by all who knew him.
Of a genial disposition, he made many friends, who will learn of his
demise with sorrow.
Deceased was a member of Co. H., Second Wis. Vol., and as truly as
though slain on the gory field of battle, he has given his life for
his flag; for it was during the stormy days of 1898, while with the
command at Porto Rico, that he contracted the disease which culminated
in his death; and his name will be added to the list of heroes, who
gave their all for humanity's cause. Although not ill when abroad, he
became so weakened by exposure and the hardships of camp life, that
immediately upon his arrival home in September he was compelled to take
to his bed. He improved steadily and was again able to be around, but
about a month ago he suffered a relapse and was again laid low on his
couch, from which he was destined never to rise. He was the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ole Tronson, and was a carpenter by trade. Besides his parents,
five sisters and two brothers survive to mourn his loss.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
