Henry Strodthoff (sic), 78, native of Manitowoc County, died Sunday at the
Veterans Administration Hospital at West Los Angeles, Calif., where he had
resided the past two years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Urbanek and
Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Strodthoff was born Nov. 30, 1875, in the town of Newton. He taught school
in the town of Rockland from 1892 to 1895 and in 1896 left the county for
Greeley, Colo., where he attended State Teachers College. In 1898 he enlisted
for service in the Spanish-American War and served for the duration of
hostilities.
A mining engineer, Mr. Strodthoff first worked in Point Barrow, Alaska region
and later traveled extensively all over the world in that capacity. He later
settled at Tujanga, Calif., and two years ago moved to the Veterans hospital.
He never married.
Survivors are a brother, William J. Strodthoff of Manitowoc and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
