Rathsack Dead at 65; Active in Business Circles
Charles L. Rathsack, 65, of 1035 South 11th street, president of the William
Rathsack and Sons company hardware dealers, and active in the business life of
Manitowoc for many years, died Thursday evening at the Holy Family hospital.
He had been seriously ill only a short time.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Shimek and Schwartz
funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Rathsack, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Rathsack Sr., was born in
Manitowoc, in 1880. His father founded the wholesale and retail hardware company
on Jay street in 1893 and Charles Rathsack, after completing his schooling,
joined his father and brothers in the business. He served a secretary of the
company for years and has been president of the company in recent years.
When a young man he was a member of Company H of the Wisconsin National Guard,
a charter member of the Manitowoc aerie of Eagles and was the last surviving
charter member of the Fish and Game Protective association. He was also a member
of the United Commercial Travelers.
Always active in civic affairs of the city, Mr. Rathsack was appointed to member-
ship on the police and fire commission, on which body he served several years.
The death of Mr. Rathsack brought to a close a span of 52 years connected with
the hardware business in the city.
Twenty-six years ago Mr. Rathsack married Miss Minnie Dietrich of this city. She
survives with a sister, Mrs. Ella Ziglinski.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home from 7 p.m. Saturday, until the hour
the services.
