RESIDENT OF CITY 81 YEARS PASSES AWAY
John Rath, for 81 years a resident of this city, died early this morning at the
Holy Family hospital, the victim of a functional disease which has bothered him
for the past 19 years. The affliction did not trouble him greatly until late
yesterday when the pain became acute, necessitating his removal to the hospital.
The deceased was born in Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany, on August 3, 1848 and
came to this country when he was two years old. On May 2, 1878, he married Miss
Lena Wenner. Four children were born to them, two of whom have died. During his
81 years residence in this city he lived in the same house at 1124 South Eleventh
street. Besides his widow he is survived by two children, Emil Rath, and Mrs.
Roland Branchmann; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday from the residence at 1:30 and at 2 o’clock
from the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran church. Burial will take place at Evergreen cemetery
with the Rev.T. Ueztmann officiating.
