Pioneer Woman Dies
Mrs. Augusta Raether, a pioneer resident of the county, who settled in the
town of Newton with her husband in 1856, died at the home of her son, Louis
Raether at Rapids today, at the advanced age of 91 years. Funeral services
will be held from the German Lutheran church Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Raether was born in Germany Jan. 19, 1825, and was married there. She
is survived by five children, Mrs. Johanna Gomell, Mrs. Henry Baruth, Julius
Raether, this city; Louie, of Rapids, and Mrs. Charles Struck of New London.
Eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive.
