DEATH CLAIMS EDWARD LUETH, A PIONEER RESIDENT
Was Early Day Ship Carpenter of City and Had Been Resident Here Since 1866.
Deceased 86 Years of Age
Another of the old residents of Manitowoc heard Death’s call today, Edward Lueth, early day ship carpenter and a resident here since 1886, passing away at his home on North Ninth street, this morning at the advanced age of 86 years. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home.
Mr. Leuth (sic) had been failing for two years and since September had been confined to his bed. He was a native of Germany and was born Oct. 2, 1839 at Gotten, Meckelberg Schwerin, coming to this city in 1866 and residing here ever since.
For thirty-five years, Mr. Leuth, was employed with the Burger & Burger Shipbuilding company, retiring ten years ago because of his advanced age.
In April, this year, Mr. and Mrs. Leuth celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, the couple having been married in Chicago in 1866 just before locating here.
Mr. Leuth, who was a life-long member of the German Lutheran church, is survived by his widow, three sons—Richard, Robert, this city, and Walter Leuth of Curtiss, Wis—and two daughters, Mrs. Laura Danz of Quincy, Ill., and Mrs. Amanda Parker of Chicago. Two children preceded Mr. Leuth in death.
