Oliver "Ollie" Edward Dodson, Jr., 82, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Ollie, the son of Oliver E. Dodson, Sr. and Anna C. (Kersting) Dodson, was born March 29, 1925 in Kansas City, Ks., where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School, Kansas City, Ks. and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving with a Seabees construction battalion in the South Pacific, during World War II.

A plumber by trade, Ollie was a 63-year member of Local #8 of the United Assn. of Plumbers and Gasfitters. During his retirement, he found a second avocation in the food industry, as an in-store demonstrator, concluding with more than five years at Price Chopper stores in western Wyandotte County.

Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Stella (Michalski) Dodson, sister, Catherine (Dodson) Thatcher and grandson, Randy Dodson. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of the home; his four children, Barbara (Jay) Hedges of Mansfield, TX., Brenda (Dick) Morrison of Boerne, TX., Gary (Kathy) of Cave Creek, AZ. And Greg (Susan) of Springfield, MO.; two stepchildren, Sharon (Warren) Gray and Richard (Susan) Harris; three sisters, Mary Burton, Dolores (Lonnie) Arnold and Pat (Jerry) Musil; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ollie enjoyed fishing, a skill he learned from his dad, and was known to spin some tall fishing stories, as well as, trying his luck at bingo games and casinos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 6, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 22nd & Parallel Ave., KCK, with interment following in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, KCK. Friends may call 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Joseph A. Butler & Son Funeral Home, 19th & Minnesota Ave., KCK, where the Rosary will be said at 7 pm. Family suggests memorials to K.C. Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, KCMO 64114 or to Catholic Charities, 2220 Central Ave., KCK 66102.
