Hiram Asbe, son of Samuel L. and Emily B. (Montgomery) Sommerville, was born in Marion county, Illinois, April 22, 1870. His education was received in the public schools, including the high school, and he spent the years from 1891 to 1894 in the University of West Virginia. In 1894 he was graduated from the law department of this institution, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Laws. In the same year he took up the practice of law at Elizabeth, Wirt county, West Virginia. Beside his legal practice Mr. Sommerville was engaged in farming. He was a member of Wirt Lodge, No. 82, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and past master of the lodge.
He married Ottie Smith and they had 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son. In 1929, they moved from West Virginia to a small farm outside Garner,NC.
