He was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, a 62-year member of Jackson Masonic Lodge 62, Shelbyville, and a member of the Shriners ISIS of Salina, Kan. He was also a charter member of the Shelbyville Kiwanis Club and a member of the VFW and American Legion of Shelbyville. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1928 to 1960 and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
