Michael Ted Aragón, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2007.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Candelario and Epifania Aragón, brothers, Vicente, Napoleon, Ruben, Benny and Nestor and sister, Henrietta.
His surviving members are Art Aragón, Carmen Ulibarrí, Molly Vigil, Pauline Lamb, Mary Quintana, Angelina Vigil and Bella Aragón. Surviving is his beloved wife of 49 years, Sibilyn Aragon, sons, David Aragón and Michael Aragón Jr., daughter, Carmela Aragón and daughter-in-law, Doris Aragón, grandchildren, David Aragón Jr., Christopher Aragón and Ariela Aragón-Montaño.
Michael was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army.
Michael received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. In his 32-year teaching career, he taught in Santa Fé and Albuquerque Public Schools. Michael was a member of the National Education Association and other educational organizations. Michael earned the friendship and respect of his colleagues. The influence he instilled in so many of his students will be long and lasting.
As a teacher, he inspired youths to succeed in academics, often encouraging them through opportunities to play basketball in his school's team. Later in his career, he became an APS administrator.
Michael was active at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and an usher. Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Lion's Club, which he held the positions as president and treasurer of the Lion's club.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed duck and big game hunting, camping, as well as fishing. Michael was a dedicated sports fan and supported the Lobos.
Michael loved everybody and was loved by all. His family dearly misses him and will find ways to celebrate his spirit.
Services will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church located on 4th and Alameda NW, in Albuquerque. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2007. The reception will follow at Nativity's Parish Hall immediately following the Mass. Burial Services will be at Santa Fé National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with U.S. Army Honors.
