William I. Meekes, a pioneer of Benton county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto Polsfuss, aged 74 years, after a lingering illness of several years.

The deceased was born in Greenville, Ohio, February 8, 1848, and married Elizabeth Maness of Union City, Indiana, in 1870. More than 50 years ago they moved to Benton county near Foley. There were 13 children six of whom survive. Mrs. Otto Polsfuss of Princeton, Mrs. Geo. Morse of Anaconda, Mont.; Mrs. Harry Wright of Melrose, Mrs. Leo
Thompson of Long Siding, George of St. Cloud and Edward of Bemidji.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. A. Lumb at the home of Mrs. Polsfuss. Mr. Lumb, Mrs. Geo. Smith and Miss Ruth Pitts sang, accompanied by Mrs. Anna Ewing. Interment took place at Oak Knoll cemetery.

On account of his long suffering death came to Mr. Meeker as a great relief.
