Margie Lee Baker - (January 7, 1931 - July 26, 2012) - Margie Lee Walters Baker, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Margie is survived by her adoring husband of 62 years, Bobby Clifford Baker, and her loving daughters, Cathy Elaine Byrne, Pamela Dianne Pressley, and Carol Sue Heil. She was the much beloved Mawmaw of Amber Dawn Pressley, Brian Joseph Byrne, Aislinn Clare Byrne, Jessica Rachel Heil, and Christopher Dean Heil. She is also survived by her younger brother, Bobby Glen Walters, sister-in-law, Audrey Walters and brother-in-law, Curtis Doty. Cherished aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Amos Walters and Ora Lee Walters, and by her brother, Dan Walters and recently by her very close sister, Mary Jo Doty.
Margie was born January 7, 1931 in Bells, Texas just south of the Red River. She grew up on a cotton farm the eldest of four siblings working alongside the family. She graduated high school as Salutatorian at Bells High School and then went on to Draughon's Business College in Dallas, Texas. It was here that she met her future husband, Bobby, whom she married September 9, 1950 in Dallas. They soon bought their first home in Pleasant Grove and started their family. Their immense love for each other lasted for the rest of their lives together.
Margie dedicated her life to her family and to serving her Lord and her church. She was the beacon to many whose lives she lovingly and graciously touched in countless ways over her lifetime. Some of her many virtues were endless patience, kindness, compassion and generosity. Her loyalty to her friends and family was unwavering and unconditional; never passing judgment for their human frailties, but focusing on all that was good. Margie opened her heart and her home to all who were lucky enough to meet her. Over many years, her home was the center of nearly all of the family holiday celebrations, which provided lasting memories of love, connection, laughter and joy. She tirelessly welcomed everyone who came to her home with her delicious cooking and hospitality. Margie loved her family completely. Her husband, children, grandchildren and all of the extended family were the center of her life. She was also known as an avid gardener, a hummingbird enthusiast, a caring mama to many pets over the years, a jigsaw puzzler, and lately a devoted Mavericks fan (yes, really!). When she was able, she was an earnest garage sale shopper who delighted in a good bargain, often mapping out the best route to catch all the neighborhood sales with her co-shopper, and husband Bobby.
For many years and a few generations, she was a Bible class teacher at Mesquite Church of Christ for countless numbers of two-year olds. She helped lay a spiritual foundation by her colorful baby animal illustrations that demonstrated the connection between God and nature to her little toddlers. She often was able to maintain contact with her past students who credited her with happy memories of her class in their formative years. After 40 plus years as a member of the Mesquite Church of Christ, she and Bobby relocated to Flower Mound where they found a hospitable welcome to their new home church, Lewisville Church of Christ. Margie made it a point to continue her service by welcoming newcomers and providing encouragement and fellowship to all.
Those of us who are blessed and fortunate to have shared in the life of this beautiful woman, should let her light continue to shine by being the best we can be. She will be missed equally as much as she is loved.
