He first settled in Warroad, MN where he worked in his brother Leonard's sawmill. His brother Gustav Bernard also worked there. He was a private in the Armed Forces in WWI.
After the war, he became a farmer in Birchdale. In the 1920s & 1930s, he was living with his brothers & farming.
He later married Hazel Marie Bergvall.
Upon his death, he was buried in the Birchdale Cemetery.
