Jacob Leichty, 92, of Green Hills Retirement Community, West Liberty, Ohio, and formerly of Rensselaer, Indiana, was called home to spend eternity with his Saviour on July 25, 2012.
Jacob was born in Fair Oaks on Feb. 11, 1920 to John and Saloma Chupp Leichty.
On Feb. 26, 1942, he married Marceline B. Miller, daughter of Abner and Lydia Miller Miller, in the Burr Oak Mennonite Church in Rensselaer.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his wife; sons, Jacob Jr. (Grace) of West Liberty, Gerald (Juli) of Rensselaer, and Michael (Jeanette) of Temecula, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Glen, Scott, Darrin, and Jon Leichty, Karen Dinger, Andrea Kauffman, Kim Chapman, Kyra Moran, and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Simon Leichty and Carl Leichty and little sister Iona Leichty.
Jake was a successful farmer for 46 years. In his 20 years of retirement living in Rensselaer after leaving the farm, he continued to work part-time for another farmer and did custom mowing. This work continued until he moved 4 ½ years ago at age 88 to the retirement community in West Liberty, Ohio.
Jake was a committed member of Burr Oak Mennonite Church for 62 years, where he devoted countless hours of volunteer service for many years. In West Liberty, Ohio, he attended the Oak Grove Mennonite Church.
Visitation will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, and at 9:30 a.m., one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. memorial service on Monday, July 30, at the Burr Oak
Mennonite Church with Pastor Philip Leichty officiating. Interment will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Burr Oak Mennonite Church in Rensselaer or the Green Hills Retirement Community in West Liberty, Ohio.
