Marian Adams
Marian Adams, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 in Westminster Village in Terre Haute. She was born on March 20, 1913, in Sullivan County to Ralph Arthur Eaton and Elsie Hamilton Eaton. She was married in 1933 to Charles Noble, who died in 1980. In 1982, she married Carl Adams, who died in 2002. She traveled widely with her husbands in their years of marriage. As a student in Sullivan High School, she played piano to accompany silent films in the local motion picture theater. After graduating from high school, she attended business school in Terre Haute, training to become a stenographer and secretary. She was employed by the law office of Duffey and Kincaid. When Duffey was elected mayor of Terre Haute, she worked for him in the mayor's office and later worked in Rent Control Office. She then took and passed the civil service test and began working for the federal government in Social Security Administration for nearly 50 years, except for six or seven years when she was transferred to Santa Ana, Calif., office. She retired from the Social Security Administration in 1978.
Survivors includes two sisters, Marcella Hedden of Jeffersonville and Phyllis Milligan of Columbus, Ohio.
She was a member of United Methodist Temple, a member of Altrusa Club and a life member of Women's Department Club.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at DeBaun Funeral Home, 85 E. Springhill Drive in Terre Haute with the Rev. Curtis A. Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
