Eliza Eleanor Campbell, was born June 12, 1840, about three miles east of McLeansboro, and died January 2, 1923, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. J. Underwood near McLeansboro. She was the daughter of Ichabod and Polly Mitchell, pioneer settlers of Hamilton County. She was married to James M. Campbell in 1862 and lived in Hamilton County all her life. She early in life joined the Methodist church and remained a faithful and devoted member until death. Her life was one of devotion to her home and her children, and she was ever found on the side of right and always ready to condemn the wrong. She was the mother of seven children, Leonidas, Annie, Harry, Ruth, Frank, Fred and Marshall, and she left 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband and four of her children, Leonidas, Annie, Fred and Marshall preceded her to the great beyond. She leaves three children, Harry, who now lives in Tulsa, Okla., Ruth Underwood, wife of D. J. Underwood of near McLeansboro, and Frank of Reno, Nevada.
