Laura May Rhoades, passed away Friday, (January 6, 2012), after a long illness at Coccomo Memorial Convalescent Home in Meriden.

She was born June 13, 1914, at home on Melrose St in Glastonbury, daughter of the late Hiram W. and Florence (Powell) Rhoades. Laura was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury. She was raised in the house her father built, on Hebron Avenue and continued living there for over 75 years until moving to Cheshire to live with her niece Margaret.

Laura was a devoted member of the First Church of Christ Congregational and the Good Will Grange where she held office most of her life. She loved her family and remained very close to them throughout the years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Laura is survived by her dear niece, Margaret Bernhardt and her husband Carl of Cheshire; her beloved grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Deborah Kammerer of Sanford ME, Gerry "Butch" Hauser of Cheshire, Richard Bernhardt of Cheshire, Carl "Joe" Bernhardt of Plainville; many great grandnieces and great grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Esther (Rhoades) Boardman.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, (Jan 14, 2012), at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpk, Glastonbury CT. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Will Grange Maintenance Fund, PO Box 1393, Glastonbury CT. Published in The Hartford Courant on January 12, 2012
