MILBANK — Vivian Ackerman, 87, Milbank and formerly of Waubay, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, in a care center at Milbank.

Memorial services will be Saturday in the Calvary Assembly of God Church at Milbank with the Rev. Mike Doran officiating. Music will be provided by pianist Jan Liebe and a vocal trio consisting of Breanna Schmidt, Morgan Schmidt and Kaitlyn Schmidt.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Lisa Schmidt, John Gerdes, Brian Ackerman, Carol Ann Kenner, Scott Ackerman, Mark Ackerman, Mike Ackerman, Patrick Ackerman and Joseph Ackerman.

Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of arrangements.

Vivian Lorene Ackerman was born Sept. 9, 1920, on the family farm north of Waubay. She was the daughter of Harry and Emma (Bundrock) Grant. She attended rural school near Waubay.

She married Arthur Ackerman Nov. 30, 1939. Following their marriage, they lived in Aberdeen one year before returning to the Waubay area. She operated a frog bait business for many years. She took in laundry, did painting and wall papering. She worked as a waitress at the Round The Clock Cafe in Waubay for several years.

She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading and was an avid card player. She especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie and her husband Don Gerdes of Milbank; two sons, William and his wife Judy Ackerman of Minneapolis and Dennis and his wife Bernadette Ackerman of St. Paul, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
