MRS. CARPENTER IS CLAIMED BY DEATH; BURIAL HERE TODAY
---------
Would Have Reached Her 91st Anniversary of Birth Next Monday

Death yesterday claimed one of the oldest people of the valley, Mrs. Lemina Taylor Carpenter passing away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. True Graves, 1401 Second avenue. Mrs. Carpenter, born in Indiana on February 28, 1836, would have been 91 years old next Monday. Death was due to cancer, with which she had been suffering for a long time.

Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at two o'clock from the Graves home, and will be in charge of Rev. M. Allen Keith, of the Methodist church. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

The deceased came here some twelve years ago, to make her home with her daughter, and has resided here continually since that time. She made many friends who loved and respected her for her cheerful ways and patient suffering which she endured because of her affliction. These many friends will learn with regret that she passed into the great beyond, and are tendering their sincere sympathy to those who survive.

Surviving Mrs. Carpenter are six children, besides a large number of more distant relatives. Mr. Carpenter, a veteran of the civil war, died but a short time after he returned from the service. The children who survive their mother are: Alexander Carpenter of Benville, Ill.; Oscar A. Carpenter, Siloam Springs, Ill.; Charles H. Carpenter, Buckhorn, Ill.; J. W. Carpenter, Mount Sterling, Ill.; Mrs. James Hoover, Portland, Mo.; Mrs. True Graves, Scottsbluff. Two children preceded their mother in death, Mrs. Nancy Ellen Easley, who died in St. Louis; and Mrs. Julia A. Whitead, who died three months ago in Versailles, Ill.
