Leila Pauline Christensen, 82

Leila Pauline Christensen, 82, of Anita died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at her home. She was born in Adair County on Nov. 7, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Rhea Clarke Meshing. The family lived in Adair County where she started rural school. They ten moved to Exira Township of Audubon County, where she grew up and finished her formal schooling. On June 9, 1932, she was married to Henry Christensen, in a double wedding with her sister Jenne and Reginold Sykes, at Fremont, Neb. They lived in Brayton for several years and worked on various farms. In 1942 they moved to rural Anita where they farmed until moving to Anita in 1972. Pauline worked at the Redwood in Anita for 15 years until retiring in the mid-1970's. she had belonged to several clubs and organizations over the years and was a longtime member of the Anita Garden Club, and truly loved her flowers. She had hand quilted more than 13 quilts by herself.

Survivors include her husband, Henry; two sons Tom and his wife, Joanne, of Anita; and Roger and his wife Carole, of Anita; eight grandchildren; Cheri Miller and her husband James, of West Des Moines; Kent Christensen of Ottumwa; Charl Claussen and her husband David, of Anita; Camma Miller and Mark Miller of West Des Moines; Chad Christensen and his wife, Nicole, of Ames; Jerod Christensen of Ames; Melissa Christensen of Des Moines; and Nicole Christensen of Anita; eight great-grandchildren; Jeffrey Miller; Cecila and Michael Miller; Ethan, Earin and Emily Claussen; and Conner and Hartley Christensen; two sisters, Lena Mae Metheny of Anita and Betty Kinzie of Anita; nieces and nephews. Preceded her in death were her parents and one sister, Jenevieve.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept, 13, at 10:30 A. M. at the Anita United Methodist Church, with Rev. Michael Willer officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. Visitation will be afternoon on Sunday at the Mullen Funeral Home in Anita where the family will be present from 7 to 8 P. M.
