2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-five and mustered into federal service at Reading, Berks County, February 11, 1864, as a private with Co. B, 55th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 30, 1865. He is in the company register as "Breniser."
He married Sarah A. "Sally" Hower December 9, 1866, in Ephrata, Lancaster County, and fathered Frank S. (b. 01/20/1867), Mary Ann (b. 09/21//1869 - married John K. Young), George Washington (b. 01/06/1872), Wilson Pierce (b. 09/161874), and Cora (b. 07/05/1877 - married Charles Southwick Rhea (divorced 1907) and Noah R. Krimm).
Cause of his death is listed as "pneumonia lobar." Originally interred in Boman's Cemetery, he was re-interred three years later to Lincoln Cemetery.
