Daughter of William Hubbard Griffin and Wilmoth Callahan (Calliham). Sister to Mr. William M. Griffin, Mr. Joseph Griffin, Elizabeth Griffin, Susan Griffin, Mary "Polly" Jane Griffin, Mr. Daniel Griffin, Mr. Smithson "Smith" Griffin, Mr. John G. Griffin, Mr. Ransom Griffin, Margaret "Maggie" M. Griffin, Mr. George C. W. Griffin, and Mr. Cotare M. Griffin.

Martha married Reverend James Monroe Shupe on 22 Oct 1872 in Gate City, Scott County, Virginia. The marriage was performed by B. B. Redwine. Together they had 15 children as follows: Susan "Susie" Victoria Shupe Chandler, Mr. Smith W. A. Shupe (died young - in 1880 census only), Rachel Catherine Shupe Wells, Anna "Annie" "Lizzie" Lee Shupe Wells, Rebecca "Becca" Jane Shupe Dickenson, Mary Elizabeth Shupe Dickenson, Sally M. Shupe Chandler, Sarah Shupe (not the same daughter as Sally), Rosa "Rosie" Amanda Shupe Dickenson, Mr. Smith W. Shupe (died as an infant - Scott County birth record only), Mr. James Nelson Shupe, Mr. George Cowan Gilmer Shupe, Mr. John Allen Shupe, Mr. Henry Hezekiah "Kier" Shupe, and Mr. James M. Shupe (died young).

Burial information was provided to me by Dianna Taylor (#47310976). Dianna obtained this information from Billy Pat Osborne, son of Myrtle Wells & William Patton Osborne and grandson of Hezekiah & Rachel Shupe Wells.
