Mrs. Hazel Smith Baer, 73, 1110 E. 27th South was found dead Thursday at 10:40 p.m. of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered in a fall in her home early Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Baer had been secretary-treasurer of Giffin's Jewelery, 271 S. Main, for 20 years.
She was founder of the Leukemia Research Fund in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 1924 she was a physical education instructor in West High School. Prior to that she had taught in Jackson Elementary School.
She was active in the Delta Gamma Mother's Club and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mrs. Baer was born Sept. 27, 1891, in Salt Lake City, to Joseph and Linea Smith. On Aug. 15, 1915 she was married to John A. Baer in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died Sept. 3, 1946.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Irma Mahar, Republic, Wash.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 178 E. 9th South. Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday at 6 p.m. at 372 E. 1st South, where friends may call Sunday from 5-7:30 p.m., and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, SLC, Utah.
