Mrs. Hazel Cornett Sluder, age 83, of Marion, passed away on July 3, 2012 the Hospice House in Forest City. Hazel was a native of Rutherford County and was born on June 25, 1929 to the late Enoch Cornett and Birdie Sluder Cornett. She was very talented in many different crafts being proficient in needlework, woodworking, sewing and painting. She made clothes for her family and had a large collection of handmade porcelain dolls and her favorite, cochina dolls. Hazel loved to visit the trade lot and enjoyed "porchin' it", rocking on her porch. She loved and nurtured her family and they will miss her very much.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Harold Sluder; three children, Barbara Patton of Union Mills, Denise Sluder and her fiancé Gary Stidham and Harold Lee Sluder and wife Susan of Marion; a brother, Nolan Cornett of Montford Cove; five grandchildren, Jamie, Tiffany, Ashley, Eric and Victoria; and a great-grandson, Jonathan.
A service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.
