Wm. Duthie was born. December, 183O, In the parish of Garvock, Kincardenshire, Scotland, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.S. Boynton in Avalon, Monday, May 18th at 6 A. M., after an illness of two months.
In October, 1856, he came to America, coming to Madison as far as the railroad went at that time. Later he came to Johnstown and after a few years came to Bradford and purchased a farm where he resided until fourteen years ago when he moved to Janesvllle where he resided six years moving to Clinton and resided for five years, when he came to Avalon to reside with his daughter.
Besides bis aged wife five children are left to mourn his death: Wm. C. of Janesville; James of Avalon; Mrs. John Cooper of Clinton, Mrs. C S. Boynton of Avalon and Edward of Janesville. One daughter, Elizabeth, died in 1904. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 P. M. from the residence where the large crowd which assembled was a fitting tribute to the esteem in which he was held in this community. Rev, C. E. O'NeiI of Emerald Grove officiated. The pall bearers were Dr. R. L..Brown, Geo.
Yahn, .Andrew Scott, Wm. Zuill of Janesvflle, Walter Dalton of Clinton, 'and Wm. Reid of Avalon. Interment in the family lot at Johnstown Center.
