Rachel M. Abplanalp, age 89, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Rachel was born in Arena, on Nov. 4, 1922, to Harry and Alvina Walter.

She went on to earn her teaching degree from UW-Platteville and taught at the Mount Horeb Public Schools from 1962 until she retired. Rachel was married to Harold "Skip" Abplanalp on Nov. 3, 1947; they were married 47 years, until Skip passed away in 2000. Rachel loved sports and playing cards. She would travel once in a while to take in a great play or scenery. She enjoyed quilting and has made some remarkable memories for her family.

Rachel is survived by her children, Sandy (Steve) and Bruce (Kristi). She has five grandchildren, Tyler (Kristi), Braden, Samantha, Courtney (Josh), Cole (Stephanie); and three great-grandchildren who will miss their Grandma very much. She had many friends and acquaintances who will also be touched by her absence.
