SCHUYLERVILLE
While addressing the pupils of the High School this morning on the working of the post office department of the government, Charles C. Allen, postmaster of the village, was taken suddenly ill and fell down, expiring before a physician could be summoned. Heart disease was given as the cause of death. He was 66 years of age. Mr. Allen was one of the prominent and most beloved residents of the village and had a very wide acquaintance throughout the country. He had been postmaster for over six years and prior to that was proprietor of the Schuylerville Standard, which he published for many years. He was a former supervisor of the town and Republican leader. Several years ago on the centennial of the Saratoga battlefield, Mr. Allen published a historical program that gave a most comprehensive history of the famous battle on which he was a recognized authority. Mr. Allen took deep Interest in the affairs of his home town and worked unceasingly for its 'betterment.
