Hazel Oneva Whitaker Coggins, 99, of Lynn Haven, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. Andrews Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on February 26, 1913, in Clara, MS, to Carter and Beedie Ann Kelly Whitaker. Most of her adult life was spent in Tallahassee, FL, where she retired from the Florida State Motor Vehicle Commission in 1975. From 1953 to 1958, she lived in Lynn Haven; returning to live there in 1991 to be closer to her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lynn Haven and enjoyed being a part of the Circle of Ruth.

Survivors include her daughters: Voncylle Doherty of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Joanne Nairon of Brentwood, TN; her son: Clyde W. Coggins, Jr. (Fran) of Southport, FL; and her sister-in-law: Phye Hardy of Lakeland, FL. In addition, she leaves behind to cherish her memory five grandchildren: Bill Coggins, III, Richmond Nairon (Laura), Kevin Nairon, Karen Gouchie and William F. Doherty, Jr.; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her life was also blessed by two very close friends, Ethel and Ed Carlson, who showed her extraordinary care and concern over an acquaintance that began in 1953. Also enriching her spiritual life in later years were her special friends Jim and Chong Ward.

Mrs. Coggins was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years: Clyde W. Coggins, Sr.; two sons-in-law: William F. Doherty, Sr., and Reginald Nairon; a grandson: Gary Nairson; and by all of her siblings: Estelle Rowell, Ruby Freeman, Dolphis Whitaker, Roy Whitaker, and Margie (Bobbie) Thomson.

A private graveside service will be conducted in the family plot at Woodville Cemetery in Woodville, FL, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 12:00 Noon (EST) with her grandson, C. William Coggins, III, delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. (CST), Friday, June 15, 2012, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, with a celebratory prayer offered by her pastor, Dr. Dan Mitchell of First Presbyterian Church.

The family wishes to take this opportunity to express their thanks to the nurses and aides on Hall 100, at St. Andrews Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care and compassion they showed Hazel while she was a resident at the center. Great appreciation is also extended to the volunteers of Emerald Coast Hospice for the services they provided to add comfort and dignity to her final months.
