He attended Cool Springs Academy and on June 12, 1946 he married Dorothy Marie Cline Adkins, who survives. He was a former member of Race St. Methodist Church and had worked for Statesville Chair Company for many years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Barry Adkins, one brother James Adkins and a sister Thelma Knox.
Along with his wife Dorothy Marie Cline Adkins, he is also survived by a son Brent Adkins (Cindy), of Statesville, a daughter-in-law Donna Adkins, of Oak Island, NC, three granddaughters, Amy Warren (Roger), of Troutman, Shelley Houston (Michael), of Concord and Emily Little (Tate), of Statesville and one grandson, Richard Adkins (LeAnn), of Troutman. He is further survived by a brother Robert Adkins (Loretta), of Cool Springs and ten great grandchildren, Ashley Mills, Hannah and Matt Warren, Carson Sain and Anna Little, Noah and Lily Houston and Rachel, Andrew and Aidan Adkins.
A funeral service for Mr. Adkins will be conducted Friday, May 18, 2012 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jamie Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
