Edward Augustus Walton was the sixth of seven children of Augustus George Walton and Martha "Sally" Williams. He was born 1828 in Jefferson County, Mississippi, after his parents emigrated west from Augusta, Georgia. Edward's paternal grandfathers, Robert Walton and William Glascock were honored Revolutionary War veterans and his great uncle, George Walton, represented the Colony of Georgia; signing the Declaration of Independence.
On June 20th 1855, Edward married Jane Elizabeth Downing, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth [Crane] Downing. They had nine children: Thomas Downing, John Anderson, Edward Augustus, Emma K, Annie, Blanche, Ally, Bessie and Bert.
