LUMPKIN, Lucille S. Lucille L. (Smith) Lumpkin, 78, of Newington, CT, beloved wife for 54 years of Raymond E. Lumpkin Sr. passed away on Saturday, (February 27, 2010) at Hartford Hospital. She was born in Little Rock, AR, the daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Smith. Lucille lived in New Britain for 42 years before moving to Newington 12 years ago. She was employed by CT Light & Power (now Northeast Utilities), Pratt & Whitney and Taylor Rental before retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Lucille loved reading, traveling and good conversation with old friends and new acquaintances. Growing up as a contemporary of the Little Rock 9, she emphasized the importance of education with her family. All five of her children and all five of her grandchildren went to college after graduating high school. Lucille and Raymond celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 18, 2006, with their family. The family continued celebrating their love with monthly get-togethers the past 3.5 years. Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda J. (Williams) Davis of Plainville; her sister, Doretha Allen of Little Rock, AR; and her brother, Herbert Crosby of Kansas City, MO. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Raymond; and her children, daughter, Yvonne Floyd and husband Woodrow of Bristol, daughter, Phyllis Tisdale of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Harriet Williams of Charlotte, NC and son, Raymond II and his companion Anna Boose of Middletown; her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Melody Floyd of Bristol, CT, Brenden Floyd and wife Janet of Newington and their daughters Teyah and Leah, Johnna Wiggins and husband Reggie of Southington and their daughter Reanna, Jamura Davis of Bristol, Ryan Williams and wife Kara of Middletown and their son Trey. Memorial services will be Saturday March 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 551 Church St., Newington, CT 06111.
