Mother of 17 Dies at Home of Mrs. M.L. Akins, 64 died Friday at 4:20 p.m. at her home, 1402 Graham St. She had been in failing health a year. She spent seven weeks in a hospital before returning home two weeks ago. Funeral will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of McCaulley. The Rev. C.E. Dick of Crosbyton, former of McCaulley pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the McCaulley cemetery under direction of Barrow Funeral Home of Hamil. The body will remain at Elliott's Funeral Home in Abilene until 11 o'clock Monday, when it will be moved to the home to lie in state before being taken to McCaulley. Mrs. Akins was born Jan 20, 1887, in Mississippi. She came to Texas and settled at McCaulley, Texas with her husband in 1905. They farmed there until 1943 when they moved to Imperial. They moved from Imperial to Abilene in January of this year. Mrs. Akins was the mother of 17 children. One baby died in infancy and one boy died at the age of 7. The others survive. Survivors are the husband, 10 daughters and five son. They are; Mrs. E.C. McCloud, Grandfalls; Mrs. Joe Snellgrove, O'Donnell; Mrs. William Jones, Salt Lake City; Mrs. A.L. Vymota, Fort Worth; Corrine Akins, Birmingham; Mrs. Ben Robertson and Mrs. O.H. Stewat, Abilene; Mrs. Merle Borron, Imperial; A.W. Akins, Lamesa; L.B. Akins, Cresson; Ray and Ferris Akins, Abilene and Billy Akins, Fort Sam Houston.
