Funeral service for Glenn Lamar Atkins Sr. age 69 of Decatur will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Somerville Church of God with the Rev. Michael Gunter, Rev. Pearl Jenkins and Rev. Gary Webster officiating with burial in the adjoining cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time on Wednesday at the Church.
Mr. Atkins, who died on Monday, June 11, 2012 at NHC Healthcare in Moulton, was born August 17, 1942 in Morgan County to Robert Ernest Atkins and Betty Elizabeth Williams Atkins. He was a 1962 graduate of Morgan County High School, worked 37 years for Wolverine Tube where he was known by his co-workers as "Pork Chop". He was a lifelong member of Somerville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, by two sisters and their husband; Cora Ella Aldridge (Dwight) and Dollie Shelton (Lloyd), a sister-in-law; Linda Atkins and a nephew; Allan Shelton.
Survivors include:
One son: Glenn Lamar Atkins Jr. Decatur
Two Daughters: Tammy Wesley (Frank) Zachary, LA., Pam Chabelal (Andy) Casa de Cota, CA.
Three Brothers: Charles Atkins Priceville J.W. Atkins (Hesta) Hartselle J.C. Atkins (Shelby) Mt. Hope
Three Sisters: Bobbie Jennings Moulton Dianna Gurley (Joel) Somerville Carol Parsons (Steve) Hartselle
Three Grandchildren: Blake Wesley, Benton Wesley and Brendan Chabelal A host of Nieces and Nephews
Mr. Atkins nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, make Memorials to the Somerville Church of God or to Hospice of the Valley.
